TikTok has three account types and they behave very differently when you connect a client’s TikTok to PostVito. Get the account type right before you try to connect, or the button will fail.
- Personal: the default when someone signs up to TikTok normally. Cannot post via API. PostVito can’t connect a personal account because there’s nothing it can publish.
- Creator: a free switch in TikTok’s app settings. Allows API publishing and most analytics — this is what most clients want.
- Business: the same API as Creator from PostVito’s side, plus commercial sounds. Use it if the client runs ads or sells products.
Switching the client to a Creator account
The client (or you, on their device) needs to do this in the TikTok app:
- Open the TikTok app on the client’s phone.
- Profile → menu → Settings & privacy → Account.
- Tap Switch to Business/Creator Account.
- Pick Creator (free) unless they specifically need commercial sound licensing.
- Pick the closest category.
- Come back to the client page in PostVito → Channels → Connect TikTok.
Note: This only has to be done once per client, and switching account types doesn’t delete their videos, followers, or username.
If the connect button still fails
The usual cause is authorising with a different TikTok account than the one you switched. Sign out of TikTok in the browser entirely, sign in as the client’s Creator account, then connect again. A pending two-factor prompt on the wrong account also surfaces as a connection failure.
What TikTok can receive
Once it’s connected, remember that TikTok is video-only in PostVito — one video per post, up to 4 GB and 10 minutes. Image posts and TikTok’s Photo Mode carousels aren’t supported, so plan a client’s TikTok content as video from the start. A pack that’s all image posts will leave a connected TikTok with nothing it can publish.
